Jacobean Crewelwork
Crewelwork Embroidery is an ancient embroidery, dating back as far as the 11th century. The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the earliest surviving examples. Crewelwork was refined and perfected during the reign of James 1st. This was known as the Jacobean period. Designs continue to evolve however, the exotic, stylised leaves, flowers, trees, birds, animals and insects of the Jacobean period continue to influence crewelwork today.
Silk Ribbon Embroidery
Silk ribbon embroidery is fun, easy to master and very versatile. The three-dimensional effect of this soft, tactile form of needlework is one of its most endearing qualities. Although a variety of ribbons can be used in embroidery, pure silk ribbons are the only ribbons fine enough to slip through the eye of a thin chenille needle and then though fabric to create delicate silk flowers. Silk ribbon embroidery uses a few stitching techniques that are unique but do not let this put you off as they are very easy to learn.
Jacqueline’s Heritage Embroidery Gallery
If you are looking for inspiration, have a look at the student gallery. This is where we celebrate student projects. Some students have had previous embroidery experience, however for many this is the first time they have picked up a needle since school. Jacqueline invites you to come and join us on your own learning journey. Come and join like minded people and indulge yourself with a little mindful Me time. Because, you deserve it!
