I believe that lampshades should look amazing and brighten a space even when the light is turned off. Therefore at JSInteriorsUK each luxurious lampshade commission is totally bespoke, and individually created to lift the essence of a space using complimentary fabric, trimmings and traditional hand sewn techniques.
new shades – styles & designs
Traditional handmade lampshades fall into three categories; Tailored, Pleated and Gathered. To find out what works best for you and your home, explore further and choose your poison.
Firstly, the extremely popular gathered shade, very much in vogue at the moment these shades offer the perfect opportunity to add a chic pop of colour and texture to an overall scheme lifting a space and adding a touch of glamour. All our gathered shades are handmade and although often designed for table lamps can also be made for pendant fittings.

Last, but not least, there are many traditional ways to pleat shades. Knife pleats give a classic look. The best shaped frames, for crisp knife pleats are those where the top and bottom circumference is the same. Box pleats are an interesting variation to knife pleats and suit frames where the bottom ring is wider. Swathed pleats were extremely popular in the 1920’s and today offer a stylish alternative in a contemporary home. The best frames for swathed pleats are those with waistlines to best showcase the pleats.

reconditioning vintage shades
Jacqueline has reconditioned many old but still loved lampshades. If it is dupion silk you are looking for James Hare one of our main suppliers has over 280 shades to choose from along with a huge variety of silk options suitable for both face and contrast linings depending on your choice of style and design. We primarily use Pongees for our chiffon as they have some lovely vintage shades. We encourage natural fibres for lining lampshades and Jacqueline’s personal favourite is 100% cotton Tana lawn.
handmade trimming & embellishments
Sometimes it’s just impossible to buy just the right trim for your lampshade. Although there are so many decorative trimmings to choose from they are sometimes difficult to colour match, often not made on the bias and can be extremely expensive.
It’s not strictly a golden rule but more often than not a simple bias is used on the top ring of a lampshade and a more decorative trim on the bottom. There are oodles of options. Your handmade trim can be made using the same fabric as your shade or using a complimentary shade or texture.
Jacqueline has an extensive choice of fabrics, trimmings and textile designs to choose from, as well as a wide range of new and vintage frame shapes and sizes. Do get in touch to discuss your individual requirements.
